5 Halloween Nail Art Designs: Part 1 Nightmare Before Christmas Theme
This tutorial will cover 5 different Halloween Nail Art ideas all inspired by the favorite holiday movie, Tim Burton's, The Nightmare before Christmas. Each post will cover one design. Enjoy!
1st Design: Curly Hill
For this design I used the following items, keep in mind you may also use any alternatives that you want.
NYC Black Lace for my base coat. 2 layers.
L.A. Colors Yellow Art Deco to color the moon.
Broadway French White for the moon sketch.
Sinful Colors Fell the Vibe to highlight and define the moon.
Pure Ice Forget Me Not for the curly hill color.
Nail Art Brush for the design tool.
To start this design I applied two layers of my black nail polish as my base coat. You want to make sure you have a real good opaque finish and let your base coat completely dry before starting your design.
After my base coat has dried, I am going to go in with my white nail polish and add the sketch for my moon. I want the moon to be a good focal point on the nail, so it needs to be rather big in size. I want the moon to fill the center area of my nail, touching each side of my nail in width. You can go back over areas or do any touch-ups you need to with your black polish after you added your white moon.
Now I am going to polish in my white moon with my yellow polish and before it dries all the way, I am going to blend some orange polish around the outer parts of the moon to really define the moon and give it more of an authentic look. Blending orange into the moon is optional, you can leave the moon solid yellow if you want.
Once your polish has dried completely, it's time to add in that famous spiral hill! For this, I am using my white nail polish and my nail brush. I started off by putting a little dot in the center of the moon, this will be the beginning of my spiral. Next, I took my nail brush and pulled from the center dot and did one spiral around and pulled the polish off the tip of my nail, giving a candy cane appearance.
Now, I am going to thicken up my hill a little bit, you want the hill to be thicker than just one brush stroke so it will have a really good definition to it and look 3D. Also, I am going to add a diagonal line to make a triangle shape to make the actual hill and fill it in with white as well.
Lastly, I am going to fill in my white space with my purple polish. Now if you have a really good colorful polish that will show up good against your black base, you do not have to start with the white, you can just use your color for the hill. However, my purple is light and sheer so I had to use a white base to make the purple really pop against the black.
Once your design is dry, add your top coat, matte or shine and your design is complete!
